Within our world are many smaller ones. More than eight million people live in New York City, each contributing their own element of culture, tradition, and diversity to the urban metropolis. Commuting daily to and from home requires me to pass through Flushing, Queens, often hurrying to get to my destination and not pausing to notice the finer details around me. By assimilating myself into the environment more intimately, it proved to be a source of inspiration. The impatient honks from cars and buses stuck in traffic at one of New York's busiest intersections, a spoken blend of Asian languages, the passing blurs of young and elderly faces, the bounty of exotic fruits and vegetables on display, and the mouth-watering scents of Asian cuisines, all make up the vibrant essence of Flushing.
